Youth of the Year

The Youth of the Year program is a year-round program that celebrates and develops leadership qualities and skills in our clubs’ youth. Monthly, one teen from each of our three clubhouses is recognized as the Youth of the Month. Then at year’s end, each Youth of the Month competes for the Youth of the Year title. Each of these teens possesses exceptional leadership skill and potential.

Through this program, Club youth get the opportunity to receive recognition at the local, state, regional and national levels to achieve the title of Youth of the Year (nation-wide).

Qualifications: Student-members must be a Club member for a minimum of two years, a Keystone Club member, honor roll student, and must have volunteer and community involvement experience.

National Competition: The Youth of the Year program has been around since 1947, earning its spot as the leading youth recognition program in the Boys & Girls Clubs movement.  Annually, one Club member, selected from Clubs all over the country, will hold the title of National Youth of the Year. This selection process progresses from the Club level, to the local level, then to the state level, and from there to the national level. Once selected, the National Youth of the Year serves as an ambassador, leader and voice for Club youth and young people across our nation.

Perks: BGCO offers it’s Youth of the Year a four-year renewable scholarship, opportunities to attend and speak at fundraisers, sporting events, local new channels, and travel.
